(July 18)AP Money MinuteGoogle shares tumbled Friday after its second-quarter earnings missed analysts' expectations. The Internet search leader said economic turmoil in the U.S. and parts of Europe appears to be causing consumers to click less frequently on the ads that generate virtually all its profits. Google earned $1.25 billion, or $3.92 per share, during the quarter. That represented a 35 percent increase from net income of $925 million, or $2.93 per share, at the same time last year.--------------------American Airlines will cut 1,500 jobs in its maintenance division as it reduces its fleet of aircraft. The nation's largest airline told employees the cuts will include 1,300 mechanics and 200 management and support staff. American did not break down the cuts by location.------------------------------- ---------------A federal appeals court has rejected an attempt to set aside a $42 million settlement between Fruit of the Loom and one of its stockholders. The settlements stem from lawsuits accusing the company's former top officeholders of lying to analysts to boost Fruit of the Loom's stock.
